I had this as a reference when I started building my courses. I credit Skipmore, a Japanese indie game developer who posted this image on X, originally in Japanese. These are helpful tips on 2D platforming. @skipmore https://www.skipmore.com
These are four short/speedrun levels that were done in Super Mario Maker 2. They can be finished in under 30 seconds. Since they're very short, I made a breakdown of how I made them. This is my 3rd time making a few levels based on an existing game; I didn't make any of the art. This was more focused on level design. The courses were inspired by 2D/2.5D platformer games like Rayman Legends/Origins, DK Country Returns/Tropical Freeze, and some of the puzzles in Super Mario Maker 2.
The game has been out since 2019, and it's still very active. I played a few custom levels that were very simple and would take less than a minute to finish, and some that were short, but also very difficult to solve certain puzzles. I went for the short and quick approach since it felt like players could lose interest in a level if it was too long or difficult.
